So we’ve decided to do another event this November. There are good reasons to choose doing another L.I. Geek and there are good reasons for doing another L.I. Who.
What concerns me about doing another full out Who is the difficulties we’ve seen across the U.S. Doctor Who convention scene. Many cons have ceased operations, some temporarily and some for good. Some cons have crashed and burned, hurting fandom in the process. There are only two major fan run Doctor Who conventions remaining in the states. Both of those are long-established events ongoing for twenty years or more. Doing another full sized con on Long Island is a huge risk.
On a whim I put the choice to a vote on social media. The result was a two to one margin towards doing another Doctor Who event even if it was smaller than an L.I. Who. I feel confident in moving forward.
With that Gallifreyan Events is pleased to announce that we will be holding a Doctor Who event on Long Island the weekend of November 21st – 22nd, 2020. Please visit www.longislanddoctorwho.com for more details.
The location will still be a hotel, but a smaller space. The event is limited to only 500 attendees. The room prices are affordable and includes breakfast! All of the details of this very up close and personal show will be released shortly, including the smaller convention’s new name.
L.I. Geek will return sometime in the future. I want to thank everyone who participated in the survey and I want to thank you all for supporting our events over the last six years. I look forward to seeing you in November!
